Today is Wednesday and the plan is to see a famous Wednesday Night horse race at the Happy Valley race course, which is conveniently located at the other end of my street :-)
But first, after school, I went for lunch, into this restaurant. Well, the meal was good, the restaurant probably the worst looking so far. The average Chinese restaurant is not exactly designed to be a feast for the eyes as well.
Then I crossed the heart of the Causeway Bay shopping district...
..to have a coffee at the Coffee Academics, behind Times Square, a coffee bar which tries to serve the best coffee in the world. I had the Recommendation of the Day, Classico No. 3 or so, the cold version. They actually served it in a wine glass. It was very good...do I say this too often these days? :-)
Then to the race course. I was early, so it was still rather empty. But enough light to take some pictures...
..and to study the betting procedure. There were many professional betters who preferred to sit inside in front of the monitors.
Poor decision from my perspective since the course is soo beautiful.
There was also some kind of Oktoberfest going on, with several kinds of beer on tap, mostly German brews. Even a Bavarian band was trying to create some 'typical' German mood.
Before the first race I had to drink a beer to celebrate the birthday of my favorite brother, happy birthday!! :-)
When race time came closer it became much more crowded.
I wanted to bet, just for the fun of the game, like a native. First race I ended empty-handed, but then came the second race. I choose 3 and 6 'Quinella', which basically means that both of them have to share first and second place, order doesn't matter.
Number 6 was the favorite horse of that race, number 3 rather a guess of me after seeing it.
Number 3 came out of the starter box flying, had the lead almost for the complete race, only to be overturned by number 6 at the last seconds....YEAH!! :-)
I watched it next to the finish line, almost had a stroke..
Odds were 133 for this kind of bet I had made, so with just 20 HK$ cost for the bet I had won about 270 HK$.
With a big smile on my face I collected my money and had another huge cold beer...
Then I watched the other races from the seats, sipping the beer, no more bets.
