Hongkong - Day 30

Sunday I was able to get up unusually early, at about 8:30am. The plan was a hike to the south of HK island, to the small city of Aberdeen.
But first I had to eat. I went down and had a Chinese-style breakfast, noodle soup and an iced milk tea. It was quite good, I hadn't any stomach issues afterwards :-)

It was a clear bright sunny morning, perfect for a hike...so I went into the direction of the hills.

I had to cross the Wan Chai gap, a point only about 400 meters high in order to get to the south side. The way up was hard and sweaty, the trail was steep and the air was about 28 degrees. Everybody else was carrying a small towel, very smart...

But the view from the top was sufficient reward. Aberdeen was already visible on the horizon.
The way was very well maintained, an easy walk downhill from here. It crosses the famous Hongkong Trail....

Then I reached the Aberdeen Upper reservoir..a good place for a rest.

The area is a nature reserve, the Aberdeen Country Park, but not really a wilderness. Lots of small picnic and bbq sites along the way...

Later I crossed the dam of the Lower Reservoir as well.

Wild banana trees along to the way..

Then I reached Aberdeen, saw this poster..

..the city itself isn't really picturesque.

The harbour of Aberdeen is very crowded...

..many of the Sampans criss-cross on it, they are for hire, like water-taxis.

This is the Aberdeen promenade, nice.

Aberdeen is famous for it's dragon-boat races, here is one:

I went for a stroll through the streets..

..and then into the most native looking HK-style bbq restaurant...well, restaurant is maybe rather overstated, it was the typical HK siu mei food hall...and had a chicken soup and bbq pork. The presentation was rather simple :-)
Nevertheless the meal was good at a total price of 2.80 Euros.

Then I went back to Causeway Bay by bus..my first bus ride in HK.
