New York - Day 7

Day 7 was a pretty sunny day, again. Perfectly fitted for outdoor activities like a cruise. But first we went to the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum, which is located in midtown west on the Hudson River, not far away from our apartment. We had to pass through a calm neighborhood...
..where the house are certainly pretty expensive even if it looks not exactly spectacular.
Then into the museum. We started with the Growler, a cold war nuclear attack submarine. Inside it looked as tight and green as a submarine is supposed to look :-)

Next attraction was a Concorde, the supersonic passenger aircraft. Inside it was not very luxurious, given that a ticket was about almost 5000$.
Here's the playground of the pilot crew, the nose of the aircraft was up like in inflight mode. For takeoff and landing the nose was dropped to allow a view of the ground.
This very Concorde holds the speed record for passenger flights, making it from London to New York in just 2:50 hours, which is a third of the time our flight durated.
Then up on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Intrepid. Several military jets are shown. Nothing very special but they looked cool with the NYC skyline in the background :-)

Only some steps further there is Pier 78 where we entered a boat to depart for our Skyline Cruise. This is the Manhattan skyline seen from aboard:

The sun went lower and the colors changed when we returned from East River.
And here, eventually, is the picture of the lady with the torch:
Then back into the Hudson River, where two years ago a jumbo jet touched down on the water and nobody got hurt, a modern miracle. Empire State Building greeted from the distance.

When we left the boat the moon was already visible.
And the daily evening picture, this time a NYFD firefighter station with doors open. Remarkable: every of these stations have a golden plaque outside with a list of firefighters, which lost their lives on 9/11 in the WTC. And there are many names...
