Buenos Aires - Day 6

Viernes finalmente! - Friday finally! :-)
Here is a picture from the inside of my school, in room "La Rioja" I sit during the afternoon classes from 2 to 4.
After leaving school this Friday I went for a stroll in El Centro, looking for good bookstores. Temperature was about 34 Celsius, no wind at all. I started once more at Avenida 9 de Julio and Corrientes, at the Plaza de la Republica with the obelisk.
They still have Christmas trees everwhere, which look somehow misplaced to me in summer:-)

Here is a good impression of the 14 (!!!) lanes of Avenida 9 de Julio, probably the widest street I've ever seen.

Then into a rather calm neighborhood north of Av. 9 de Julio with tree lined streets and the usual mix of architectural styles..

And here is the famous Teatro Colon, one of the best Opera houses of the world. We'll see if I actually get tickets :-)
Then back south, once more crossing the Av. 9 de Julio and into the pedestrian area of Lavalle and Florida streets.

On Florida St., next to Cordoba Av., there is a very nice shopping mall, the
Galerías Pacífico. It has high level fashion stores like Boss, Hilfiger and so on, a charming interior including frescos in the cupola and..again..even a giant Christmas tree.
While writing this I realize that the building has a long history, please see the Wikipedia link.

I bought nothing but decided to have an early dinner in the food court as I came across a huge barbecue hut in the basement. Even if the set looks as the usual fast food: I had to wait 15 minutes for the freshly made steak and fries and they were great! This Entrecôte, called Bife de Chorizo, was prepared in front of my eyes, had about 300 gramm and was sold including fries and a drink for under 6 Euros. I certainly will return to this place :-)

Then outside again, in the hot early afternoon and in the middle of the crowd on Florida street.

Once more I came across some street Tango performaners, not the only ones this day on Florida. It looks fascinating and I guess they are pretty good, as far as I can judge as a non-dancer. I even made a video clip, but still have to convert the file, will post it sometime later.

After I arrived home with tired feets the best part of this day started: a desperately needed refreshing shower (no picture of it:-) and then a bottle of ice-chilled Quilmes beer!
