Monday was the first day without sun since almost a week. The sky was grey clouded, nevertheless we decided to go for a walk in the Central Park. We took 7th Avenue but avoided any shops today :-) Then there it was: Central Park South. Unfortunately the colors are are not as lively as on a sunny day, but still it looked nice like Indian Summer. I love these autumn colors (though I don't like autumn weather). From every point in the park the surrounding building are visible through the trees.. Next stop today is the world famous American Museum of Natural History, which plays a huge part in several books like the Preston/Child mystery thrillers and blockbuster movies like Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller. As with several other older buildings in NY the front is currently under reconstruction, an annoyance for the visiting photographer :-) The exhibition was just stunning. Besides every other superlatives this museum has achieved and even if one doesn't care overly for Natural History: it is by far the best designed exhibition I've ever seen. They have put so much love for details in it, everything is explained in sufficient details using text, pictures and videos and on top of that I like the colorful design of it soo much. Every area is bathed in a color, like blue for the Oceanic Hall. It was simply a joy to wander around and see the colors matching the themes. After learning something about the origins of human life.... ...we went on to the minerals section. This is a huge extraterrestrian meteorite, which has a iron structure different from the iron on Earth. Then ahead to one of the current special attractions: the Wittelsbach-Graff diamond with over 31.000 carats!!!
I had to take a video clip to show how sparkling it is...breathtaking.
Also on display was the famous Star of India sapphire.
And so it went on and on...
After leaving the museum we went down the Central Park West road with many famous buildings like the Dakota Building, where John Lennon was shot in front of it.And eventually we arrived in our neighborhood next to Times Square where it was bright and crowded as every night...
