Happy New Year of the Tiger

By courtesy of the Chinese embassy Berlin celebrated the Chinese New Year with a really spectacular display of fireworks, one of the best I've ever seen. As usual my photographer skills weren't sufficient to catch it in its full beauty. They even shot an exploding heart in the sky...
At least I got some colors, though.

Frozen water in Berlin

The Landwehrkanal is completely frozen over. And white as every other place here.
The river Spree is more a sort of crushed ice like in a Caipirinha.
There's still life in it, however :-) This small boat had to use all of its power to break through, a couple of times it had to back up and ram the ice a second time to break the bigger sheets.

Melancholia

Tiergarten in winter is a melancholic sight. I can't wait for spring to bring back the color green to Berlin. It's the hardest winter since 30 years I heard in the news today....

Lanzarote sun

Sunset on Lanzarote..or was it sunrise, don't remember...anyway beautiful colors of the mediterranean sun. Wish I could be there now, get away from the never ending snow and ice...just drop down on on of these beach chairs...dressed only in shorts and sunglasses..

Cafe with a view

A forgotten picture I discovered on one of the memory cards, taken with the small Ixus two years ago in the Italian Alps. I like the mood of it. It was a cloudy day, that caused different light conditions in the different layers of the photo.
It's another addition to my sort of collection of coffee bars with a view... Even if I had no coffee but a hearty meal there, fried potatoes with bacon and eggs, a Tyrol signature dish.

Winter Winter

Berlin experiences the coldest winter since many years. Snow and ice everywhere...haven't seen so many people sledding and skiing in this city in my whole life...sleds are sold out in the shops.
Seemingly one of the hottest winter sports hot spots of Berlin is near the Kreuzberg. When I came across I was wondering whether the Winter Olympics have been started already here... Others, who were too late to get a sled for themselves, just wonder where the Global Warming is when one needs it :-)
