Rostock

And the next hotel room...or better suite, since it was one of the largest rooms I ever had in a hotel. This time it was Rostock and it was a private trip...finally.
The hotel ist located in the Altstadt, the oldest part of Rostock. Some hundred meters away is the Warnow, the connection to the Baltic Sea.

There is a ferry boat which moves people from the Altstadt across the Rostock port area right to Warnemünde, which is the probably most famous German seaside resort by the Baltic Sea. It's landmarks are the old lighthouse and the round building called Teepott (tea pot).

Frankfurt-on-the-Main

Another week - another hotel room, this time in Frankfurt. Finally I visited the birthplace city (this is not even mentioned at Wikipedia) of the guy who shares my birthday (at least the day and the month :-) Johann Wolfgang Goethe. Maybe he would have written a longer story here, but I guess he had much more spare time than me...

It was a nice and comfortable hotel next to the financial district, although the long business day permitted only a short stroll around the block. The streets looked somehow impressive, reminded me of the financial district of San Francisco.
The twin towers of the Deutsche Bank, truly a very impressive building. It looks very smooth and cold, too, like the financial business it represents.
Not much later I went back to the hotel to check my emails and have a good night beer, the usual lonely evening of a business trip...

Summer evening

A typical Berlin street view on a warm summer days evening... The weather forecast expected a rainy and stormy night but it's very nice and calm...so far..

Fireworks

Fireworks: nice to watch but hard to shoot. I'm still a beginner in taking pictures of fireworks...
It doesn't look as great as it actually was, the sound and the motion is missing.

Sunset

Just a nice sunset picture without any story :-)

Hoyerswerda

A trip to the city of Hoyerswerda, south-east of Berlin and next to the Polish border, is an interesting change compared to Berlin. There's not much happening here.
Here is my hotel room, not luxurious but nice and clean.
My rental car is a Audi A3 Sportsback 2.0 TDI, a real fun-racer.
Here's a typical street life scene :-)
(well, as far as I can say after being here only for a short time).

Refreshment Hall

The train station Griebnitzsee south of Berlin was built back in 1874. It was closed to the public from 1961 to 1989 because during this time it was surrounded by the wall and served as a border checkpoint for trains between East-Germany and West-Berlin. The East-German border police used trained dogs to scan the west-bound trains for fugitives.
Now it is only a small but lovely station with an open air restaurant (Biergarten) in front of it. One thing from the good old past before the wall is the sign Erfrischungshalle (refreshment hall) which is a wording nobody uses since about 50 years...
And what is sold at the Erfrischungshalle? Refreshments (Erfrischungen)...naturally. (google maps)
