Hongkong - Day 46

Sorry for the delay, too busy to post...will try make up in the next days.
Here's about day 46, "the mega-hike".

It started with a hearty breakfast of noodle soup, then with MTR to Tung Chung on Lantau Island, right in the HK rush hour.

From Tung Chung we wanted to hike to the Big Buddha at Ngong Ping, following the rescue path of the cable car. To find the entrance of the path took almost 40 minutes, really tricky...

The cable car needs about 25 minutes for the 5.7 km, we needed 2 hours. The path itself was perfectly easy to walk, only it has approximately 10.000 steps :-(

At some stages it goes down once more...only to go uphill again.

Nevertheless we made it ahead of schedule. This was the easy part of today's hike :-(
Then entering Lantau trail stage 3...the ascent to Lantau Peak, 2nd highest peak in HK, at 934 m above sea level..where we started from earlier.

Couple of hours later we had reached the peak only to see...nothing. We weren't feeling very sad because the fog saved us from the sun and heat.

The Lantau trail continued towards stages 2 and 1, going down to 400m above sea and the ascending once more to cross the Sunset Peak, the 3rd highest of HK, at 'only' 869m above sea level. The last part of the ascent was more crawling than hiking, it became very hard.
In total we had to gain about 1800 meters elevation! And we had to go back down to sea level, the descent was at times even harder since the past became rather rocky and small.

But then, 10 minutes before sunset we reached the end of the Lantau Trail in Mui Wo, where a cold beer and the ferry back to Central were awaiting us.

Familiar sights..the Wan Chai waterfront.

And as a finisher award we had a huge assorted Sushi platter take-out from Itami Sushi restaurant, freshly made before our eyes...

..and even a nice bottle of Sake was available to support the recovery...
